Yoga at Highcliffe with Tina Jeffery

As we gear up to launch our new yoga studio on 9th Jan, we caught up with Tina Jeffery, a brilliant yoga teacher who will be offering classes and private sessions at Highcliffe. We hear about her journey to discovering yoga, her connection to North Cornwall and a little insight into a typical weekend...

What’s your connection to Cornwall?

I’ve always loved the beautiful dramatic Cornwall coast. I grew up in Devon so I was never too far away but always dreamt of one day moving here. When my yoga business went online during the pandemic. I took the opportunity to cross the border and start a life by the sea. I’ve been living here for just over two years now and absolutely loving it. I love the outdoor lifestyle and enjoy my sea swims, surfs, coastal walks and of course salty sea view yoga sessions! All the good things! What’s not to love!

How long have you been practicing yoga?

I’ve been practicing for 14 years and completed my first yoga teacher teaching 9 ago in Costa Rica. Since then I’ve travelled around the world for the best teachers. Exploring and experiencing a range of yoga styles so that I can best serve my students and community in what they need.

How has yoga helped you?

For me, it’s a set of practices that remind me what’s important in life; health, freedom and connection. It physically helps me be stronger and mobile so I can keep going in all my active pursuits and mentally gives me so much clarity, focus and peace. It’s a constant support to make sure I check in and grow positively as a person.

What can we expect from your classes?

I’m so excited to be at your beautiful studio and offer a range of classes for the local and visiting community. I’ll be offering energising morning flow practices, relaxing slow stretchy evening yin classes and helpful supportive friendly beginner courses.

What does a typical weekend look like?

I teach a Saturday morning online flow class and then it’s usually surf chat with my boyfriend on where is best to go! We also love to walk the coast, cosy up with a good book and share good food with friends.

How do you unwind at the end of the day?

Yin yoga! I find it the best way to get a restful night's sleep. Not only does a yin practice soothe the muscles to release pain and tension but the meditative practice of focusing on sensation helps rest the mind from planning and worry so we can switch off and get a great night's sleep.
